Tournament Format
All tournaments are in Double Elimination format. Most simply, this means that you remain in the tournament until you have lost two sets. If you lose 1 set, you’re put into a secondary bracket known as the “Loser’s bracket”. If you lose 1 more set while in Loser’s bracket, then you will be out of the tournament; however, if you’re able to make it through losers bracket without a loss, you will have a chance to face the winner of Winner’s bracket in the Grand Finals. Should you win the first set of Grand Finals, you will knock the opposing Grand Finalist into Loser’s bracket as well. From here, the Grand Finals are considered “reset” and both finalists are fighting for first place on equal footing. If you lose the first set you will be knocked out of the tournament in second place.
The number of rounds per set will be determined by number of participants in the tournament. If there are more than 10 participants, sets will be first to 2 wins, and finals will be first to 3 wins. If there are less than 10 participants, sets will be first to 3 wins, and finals will be first to 4 wins. This is subject to change per timing constraints of each tournament.
How Tournament Scoring Works
First and Second place will go to the winner and loser of Grand Finals respectively. Third place will go to the loser of Loser’s finals, and Fourth place to the loser of Loser’s quarter finals. Beyond that, there is the potential for a tie; however, where possible, ties are solved based on the results of your individual matches. The number of matches you win will net you +1 points each, and the number of matches you lose will net you -1. For example, in a set where the match results were 3-1, you will net +2 points, and your opponent -2. These points are then accumulated and compared to individuals that end up losing in the same bracket round as you. Getting a seed for the tournament will automatically give you +3 points.

Stage Selection:
The custom rules in the Switches have been set up to randomize legal stages; however, if you have a specific stage you want to pick then you must play rock-paper-scissors to determine which stage to start with. The loser of rock-paper-scissors still has the option to ban one of the selected stages for that round. The same stage cannot be banned twice in a row. You may only select one of the initial stages for the first round. You may select from the initial stages or the counter-pick stages for subsequent rounds. If, in the middle of the set, you decide you want to pick a stage after going random initially, then the loser of the last round determines the stage, while the winner gets to ban one of the stages for the round. The loser of the first round is allowed to pick one of the counter pick stages despite having gone random for the first round.
